Across the nation, throughout Florida and in greater Fort Lauderdale, tractor-trailers, 18-wheelers, smaller commercial trucks, city buses and school buses are among the most common and most dangerous vehicles on the road. That’s why you need an experienced truck-accident law firm at your side.
Because of the sheer size of these trucks and the amount of them on the road, truck accidents are frequent occurrences. In 2019, more than 5,000 large trucks were involved in fatal crashes, representing an increase of 43% since 2010. Large trucks, which include commercial and non-commercial vehicles accounted for 10% of all vehicles involved in fatal crashes, according to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
Two years ago, accidents in Florida involving trucks (ranging from light- duty to heavy-duty) accounted for more than 30 fatalities and 150 people horribly injured.
Those harmed go far beyond innocent drivers and passengers in other vehicles. Nationally, thousands of pedestrians and bicyclists are harmed or killed. Those who survive often suffer permanent injuries and mental trauma.
If an accident involving a truck or bus has left you injured or someone you know injured or killed, the attorneys at Winston Law can help.
Among our significant plaintiff settlements and damage awards are:
A $1.5 million settlement involving a tow truck and roadway assistance negligence. After moving a disabled car from the interstate, a tow truck pulled onto a side street with emergency rotating lights activated. The disabled car was not lighted. The plaintiff was riding his motorcycle home after work and crashed into the unlighted car at 45 mph. The motorcycle driver sustained a catastrophic injury.
A $1.2 million verdict regarding a city-owned truck. The plaintiff, was driving his pickup truck north on Federal Highway when a city employee driving a truck owned by a municipality crashed head-on into the plaintiff’s vehicle. The plaintiff’s vehicle was totaled and he suffered neck injuries and ligament and cartilage tears in both knees. The plaintiff declined a city settlement offer of $49,000 made prior to trial. The jury took less than an hour to return a $1.2 million verdict.
A $2 million settlement for a sport utility vehicle driver. A tire on an SUV came apart while in motion, causing a serious rollover motor vehicle accident. The plaintiff suffered a serious injury. The investigation revealed that the tire’s manufacturing defect had been improperly repaired.
A $322,500 settlement for a truck driver. The man fell from the upper deck of a car transport trailer and broke his leg.
